Comic Book Underground’s Quick Shot Reviews

Daryll's haul

Deathstroke #22 by Christopher Priest, Diogenes Neves, Jason Paz, Jeromy Cox & Sean Parsons – We have a mini Identity Crisis reunion here as Defiance (great hidden joke in here about the name by the way) takes on some mysterious energy thugs along with real ones. But where’s Slade? And enter the newest member, Terra. Yes. You read that right.

KISS #10 by Amy Chu, Kewber Baal and Schimerys Baal – You are going to see a pattern of emotion and history with my selections this week and it kicks off here. History and fate are peculiar things and when it comes to Blackwell, this intertwines the two ships. Can old emnities be overcome to save two populations? What a huge burden for the teens to shoulder themselves . . . Last issue goes out with a bang!

Avengers #10 by Mark Waid, Mike Del Mundo & Marco D’Alfonso – The Hydra Avengers, fresh off of crushing the Underground, have a new mission investigating one of the facilities that is projecting the force shield around the planet. Who are they really? Can they be trusted? That’s what The Superior Octopus is wondering and that feeling of creepiness you feel? Yeah. Take a shower after reading this one . . .

Black Bolt #4 by Saladin Ahmed & Christian Ward Absorbing Man and Black Bolt are chained up in The Jailer’s possession. Um. Make that more like in his/her/its deathtrap. So with death all but a certainty, what is there for a couple of inmates to do but bond. Crusher Creel opens up and here comes the waterworks!

Champions #10 by Mark Waid, Humberto Ramos, Edgar Delgado & Victor Olazaba – This takes place shortly after the disaster at Las Vegas and sees the Uprising Team: Patriot, Spider-Man, Viv, IronHeart, TA Hulk, Falcon & Wasp looking for survivors. A lot of angst and emotion in this one as heartbreak piles on top of frustration and one hero sees their devotion tested. It always easy to be a hero under the bright lights but this is grim and gritty. We’ll see who has the stomach now . . .

Nick Fury #5 by James Robinson, ACO, Hugo Petrus & Rachelle Rosenberg – Welcome to Maple Grove. A quiet, sleepy town in the midst of Americana. So Nick Fury gets a vacation right? Right? Have you been reading the same book that I have been? You should already know the answer to this one. I just wondering who is on the other end of the comm-link to him? Hmm . . .

Spider-Man #19 by Brian Michael Bendis, Oscar Bazaldua and Jason Keith – A member of the supporting cast takes off. Miles and Ganke each are getting their phones blown up. One, by EXACTLY who you think as Bombshell has recovered. Meanwhile, the other may have made a serious cardinal mistake AGAIN! Sigh . . . Hammerhead has got a plan and Miles’ Parents have a heart to heart that ends a little creepy . . .

Unstoppable Wasp #8 by Jeremy Whitley, Ro Stein, Ted Brandt, Megan Wilson, Elsa Charretier & Ian Herring – *SNIFF* I’m not crying. I . . . I got a cold . . ! The last issue sees all of Janet Van Dyne’s machinations from last issue come to fruition for Nadia and the ladies of G.I.R.L. Love begins to bloom and Nadia comes clean to the last two people you would expect. Heartstrings pulled and thank you Jeremy, Ro, Ted & Elsa for this uplifting book!

Black #6 by Kwanza Osajyefo, Khary Randolph, Tim Smith III & Jamal Igle – The final confrontation as Kareem finds himself in the midst of Mann’s forces vs O’s forces vs Juncture’s forces. Which side will he ultimately choose and what will the consequences be of said decision? Going to need a scorecard for this one folks as it ALL hits the fan! Kwanza, Jamal and Khary said way in the beginning that they where going to leave us wanting more and… yep. Men of their word! Bravo!

Noble #4 by Brandon Thomas, Roger Robinson, Jamal Igle, Robin Riggs, SOTOCOLOR & Juan Fernandez – We flashback to see The Event even more clearly here and David’s role in getting the astronauts (that survived) back home. In real time, David confronts Lorena to find out who he is. Doctor Mayes has his own plans brewing for Lorena’s ambitions and Astrid? Well she’s Astrid and shows exactly why she’s a dangerous woman NOT to be trifled with.

Untamed II #4 by Sebastian A. Jones, Peter Bergting, Darrell May & Jae Lee – Everything comes to a head here. Ambitions. Family rivalries. Untold destinies. Lies revealed. The daughters of The Stranger are at stake and so may be the world of Asunda if the Underworld isn’t stopped here and now. Intricate webs of history being woven here folks!

Mech Cadet Yu #1 by Greg Pak, Takeshi Miyazawa & Triona Farrell – Say hi to Stanford. He and his mom are part of a cleaning crew in an installation training the next crop of Robo-Pilots. So what happens when he discover a loose head plate in the desert? Take Iron Giant and mix with the first 5 episodes of Robotech then stir until you get a dash of Gundam Seed. Or just look at this as a boy and his mech . . . Yep we’re all in trouble . . . LOL

Thanks for reading once again folks!
