CBU Quick Shot Reviews: Spider-Man, Titans and more!

– by Daryll Benjamin –

Harbinger Renegades #7 by Rafer Roberts, Darick Robertson, Diego Rodriguez & Walden Wong has the team dealing with the aftermath of Generation Zero’s ambush by H.A.R.D. Corps. Who survived the massacre and how will Peter, Faith and the others respond? The drums of war suddenly get louder.

Archie #23 by Mark Waid, Audrey Mok & Kelly Fitzpatrick – With Betty laid up and facing a life altering operation, the gang takes it upon themselves to do her “charity work” list. Yeah, they don’t know what they’re in for here. Wait. This just in. Archie wants to help. Who wants him with them? *crickets*

Secret Weapons #3 by Eric Heisserer, Raul Allen & Patricia Martin – Last issue we met Avichal and in this one we get an less than ideal view of his school day. It goes without saying that I can put “ripped from the headlines” here. Meanwhile, Nikki & Owen aren’t going to give up on him and Livewire is ready to do some hunting…

M.A.S.K. #9 by Brandon Easton, Drew Moss & Jordi Escuin – The MASK Team & the infiltrator tries to head off the Ore-13 infused Wraiths from attacking the town. However, their only recourse may include a big sacrifice . . . and said sacrifice might just leave them open for attack from another quarter!

Titans #15 by Dan Abnett, Brett Booth, Andrew Dalhouse & Norm Rapmund sees the traitor revealed. Or has he? In typical Abnett fashion, we look at the “main” story and get blinded to a wacky bigger picture. Mal and Gnaark return but also seemingly does a longtime Teen Titans foe. Bonds get strained folks…

Champions #12 by Mark Waid, Humberto Ramos, Edgar Delgado & Victor Olazaba in the chaos post Secret Empire, the teens try to get some R&R but unfortunately for them, Psycho-Man has his own ideas. And who feels the brunt of it? Cyclops. So what happens when the world’s most emotionally pent up teen has them released all at once? Maybe the team should have stayed at karaoke.

Accell #4 by Joe Casey, Damion Scott, Sigmund Torre, Robert Campanella & MOSH Studios – The hero returned from the other realm and tries to fit back into every day routines again. However, his thoughts are still mulling over his experiences in the desert. How does a hero recover from an existential experience exactly? Accell really needs to know….

New Super-Man #15 by Gene Luen Yang, Brent Peeples, Richard Friend & Hi-Fi continues the all out rumble between three forces of China by throwing the Suicide Squad into the mix also. So many balls in the air here as Kenan’s hero lessons go to yet another extreme. Secrets laid bare also about his family and another family quarter.

Star Wars #36 by Jason Aaron, Salvador Larroca & Edgar Delgado – We saw a couple of issues ago that C3PO was taken by Imperial Forces. Unfortunately for the Empire, R2-D2 also knows that this happened. What happens when the little bot’s rage is unleashed to rescue his friend? Pray for the bad guys folks!

Astro City #47 by Kurt Busiek, Mike Norton, Alex Ross & Peter Pantazis introduces us fans to the hero G-Dog. But who is G-Dog? And why is the hero a good dog? Twists and turns in an origin story that is pretty unique in these days of rehashed plots. Already told Mr. Busiek that this issue shocked me in the best ways possible.

Black Panther & The Crew #6 by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Yona Harvey, Butch Guice, Mack Chater, Scott Hanna & Dan Brown – To all things a reckoning as the heroes try to resolve ghosts of the past along with the Hydra infiltration of Harlem in the present. If this seems like a yeoman’s task . . . yes. Yes it is. Especially when those you thought were allies with your best interests in mind are revealed in the light of truth. Series ends up strong here.

Spider-Man #20 by Brian Michael Bendis, Nico Leon & Justin Ponsor – Color me confused in the beginning of this one as Bendis puts Miles in a situation way above his head and that’s not the gangland thing he finds himself in AWAY from NYC. I talking about Bombshell. Yeah. He’s in denial about how much she likes him. O-oh. About the gang thing, yeah some more familiar faces pop up.

There you go folks. Back at the wheel. Thanks For Reading.

Until Next Time, Keep Fantasizing!
