– by Daryll Benjamin –
Incidentals 2 by Joe Casey, Larry Stroman, Rob Stull & Snakebite Cortez – The Hunt for powered individuals continues as the “un-team” continues their maneuvers under shroud of darkness. But can their cloak and dagger tactics work when not everyone is on the same page?
Scooby Apocalypse 17 by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Dale Eaglesham & Hi-Fi – Velma, Daphne and Shaggy are literally stuck in a tree, surrounded by hundreds of mutations. Scrappy and Scooby-Doo are nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Fred and Daisy, with the transport are at least a mile away. Can you say screwed? In the 2nd Story by Giffen, DeMatteis, Rick Leonardi, Dan Green & Hi-Fi, Secret Squirrel gets an old friend as a partner for the mission. To say they don’t see eye to eye is an understatement.
Secret Weapons 4 by Eric Heisserer, Raul Allen & Patricia Martin – The Willows vs The Scavenger and his armored Rex-O for the life of Livewive. This is where all that training gets put into use and they step up into the role of heroes. Oh. Yeah. This isn’t that type of book and I love it for it…
Astonisher 1 by Alex De Campi, Pop Mhan & Jessica Kholinne – There are so many stories untapped from the Catalyst Meteor. This has to be the weirdest one yet. Take a spoiled rich designer/inventor who gets meteor rocks embedded within him. Now he has become a Nightmask/Booster Gold hybrid. This is unlike any book on the stands right now for me.
ROM 13 by Chris Ryall, Christos Gage, David Messina, Michele Pasta & Alessandra Alexakis – Rumble in the ocean as our favorite Spaceknights take on, what I can only call, a Wraith Kraken. Even if our heroes survive that, the sailors in the ocean might not. Camille and Darby find each other again in the strangest way to date. And in the 2nd Story by Ryall, Gage, Guy Dorian Sr. & Sal Buscema, Rom discovers that the planet that co-opted the Wraiths might not have the best intentions themselves as his partner has succumbed to it…
Black Panther 18 by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Chris Sprouse, Wilfredo Torres, Karl Story & Laura Martin – Probably the most “mainstream” famous of T’Challa’s villains makes his return as Black Panther and Shuri start to put 2 and 2 together in regards to the town massacre. Meanwhile, the Dora Mijare got another mission that may be a little more than they bargained for.
Moon Girl Devil Dinosaur 23 by Brandon Montclare, Natacha Bustos & Tamra Bonvillain – Lunella and Devil reach a crucial point in their partnership in the afterglow of the Ego/Illa adventure. And some things might not be able to be put back the way they were. A longtime member of Devil Dinosaur’s story returns. And HEY! Doom Head holds a class to the Lunella Bots…
Nick Fury 6 by James Robinson, ACO, Rachelle Rosenberg & Hugo Petrus – The Last Issue sees Nick got back to the scene of one of his dad’s most infamous and weirdest missions. But unfortunately, Hydra returns to this place also. A reckoning. Loose ends come together and a mantle seized…
Archie 24 by Mark Waid, Audrey Mok & Kelly Fitzpatrick – Fallout from the incident continues as Betty returns to school. Archie is still at a loss for what to do. Betty’s family is in a word pissed and Reggie is in deep, deep trouble with the law. To say the status quo has been upset is an understatement.
Faith & Future Force 3 by Jody Houser, Diego Bernard, Juan Castro, Cary Nord, Brian Thies & Ulises Arreola – This time the Doc recruits all the hard hitters, except for Harada of course, to take out the TimeBoxBot and well, still not good. Anybody got any miracles? Because slowly but surely, it’s making its way to our time. *Gulp!*
Spider-Man 21 by Brian Michael Bendis, Nico Leon & Justin Ponsor – Ok. I can admit it that I didn’t see this swerve ending coming as to who Miles’ benefactor in Tokyo was. But I digress, Miles is way over his head in a den of criminals and has to consult the closest person he knows to get out. Only 2 problems: 1 He never told this person about Tokyo; 2 Yeah. Person really hates this life.
Star Wars 37 by Jason Aaron, Salvador Larrocca & Edgar Delgado – See the early origin of the Stormtrooper Scar Squadron through a member’s Eyes as he meets Darth Vader. In “present” time, the squadron looks to wipe out a Rebel Base on a remote planet. In the 2nd Story by Aaron, Dash Aaron, Lee Loughridge & Andrea Sorrentino, we get an entry in Obi-Wan’s Journal about him and the Tuskan Raiders. Thx for this run Aaron & Larrocca. Certainly have raised bar high for future stories!
Motor Girl 9 by Terry Moore – So I got my answer verified in terms of Sam’s confidant Gorilla for sure. Meanwhile our dapper duo of Larry and Victor try to bust out Biik from the Corporation but it might be too late….. for the planet! We turn the page on this story seemingly in the next issue but for Sam’s demons, it is going to be a never-ending struggle.
Marvel Legacy 1 by Jason Aaron, Esad Ribic, Steve McNiven & Matthew Wilson (main story) – The debut of Avengers 1,000,000 B.C. is the kickoff to a story that is much detective as it is cosmic. I guess this is Marvel’s start to the next line wide arc. Featuring StarBrand, Ghost Rider, and more a lot of Marvel’s artists give glimpses here about where they are going for the next year. Two of their big franchises return if you didn’t know BTW. Oh. That’s right. You had it spoiled for you by “solicitations” and “news articles”.
Bloodshot Salvation 1 by Jeff Lemire, Lewis LaRosa, Mico Suayan & Brian Reber – Garrison and Magic seek to raise their Lil one and BloodHound away from the craziness of Bloodshot. But unfortunately for them, it might be the family of Magic that might F up any and all hope of a relaxing life. This seems to be the kick off to the next level of Valiant insanity.
So ends part 2 of my September books and the beginning of my October.
Thanks for reading All! Until Next Time, Keep Fantasizing!
