– by Daryll Benjamin –
Secret Warriors 6 by Matthew Rosenberg, Juanan Ramirez & John Rauch – The Secret Empire fallout continues here as the Inhuman team is fractured. Karnak goes to seek aid from an old “friend”.. Ms. Marvel tries to return to her flow as Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur continue their growth. Inferno has to do a bit of babysitting as he gets tutored by Lunella. Unfortunately for him, a twisted foe makes his presence known again and as far as Quake goes, Daisy begins her hunt for Agent Coulson’s killer: Deadpool.
Wildstorm: Michael Cray 1 by Bryan Hill, Warren Ellis, N Steven Harris, Dexter Vines & Steve Buccellato – Spinning out of The Wild Storm, Cray has now gone to work for Christine Trelane’s organization while they work to find a cure for his condition. His first assignment has come down: stop an eccentric rich man who’s been kidnapping and hunting men on his private island. The dude’s name? Oliver Queen.
New Super-Man 16 by Gene Luen Yang, Brent Peeples, Richard Friend & Hi-Fi – So Kenan got killed. Sort of. And he’s now with his Master’s evil twin is 1900’s America. Yes you read that right. And folks wonder why I love comics. Anyway, if he comes out of this spiritual journey whole, there’s still a whole lot of intrigue to get through involving the past couple of events/disasters.
Scooby Apocalypse 18 by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Ron Wagner, Andy Owens & Hi-Fi; 2nd Story by Giffen, DeMatteis, Ben Caldwell & Jeremy Lawson – Aftermath of the fight with the mutations/giant combo sees a cast member missing with another emotionally frayed. Two new travelers have joined the group but how they fit in? And all this said, how is there a town in midst of this chaos idyllic and unaffected? In the 2nd story, Secret and Bunny are bickering all the way as they try to stop the bad guys. Unfortunately, weapons are ARMED!
Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows 12 by Ryan Stegman, Brian Level & Jesus Aburtov – Annie? Captured by Lil Osborn. Mary Jane and Peter? Trying to put the pieces of the last few months together. The 100 Foot High Goblin Robot? Wrecking NYC trying to end the Spider Family. Wait. What? The second year of this Alt Marvel Universe Story ends with several bangs and a few guest star.
The Defenders 6 by Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez & Justin Ponsor – Stryker continues to make his power moves to consolidate power. Black Cat lies broken. Luke Cage and Iron Fist race to stop him. Daredevil looks to come at things from a different avenue. And hmm, speaking of that, just wait until you see who Jessica enlists to help with the job.
Hulk 11 by Mariko Tamaki, Bachan & Federico Blee – After a few weeks of pure stress, Jennifer is going out on a date!!! And Patsy decides to help her out. Folks, if you loved the Byrne or Slott runs of She-Hulk, this is the jumping on point for you. Tamaki takes their style and goes 4th Wall with this one off (?) of a very strange date night!
Ms. Marvel 23 by G Willow WIlson, Diego Olortegui & Ian Herring – Kamala can finally relax after weeks of hell right? Wrong. Bruno might not be ever coming back. She has got a new classmate that she knows quite well along with a new hero in town. Ah well, at least she has a runaway train to calm her nerves. Um yeah. Calm.
MASK 10 by Brandon Easton, Drew Moss & Jordi Escuin – Heavy is the head that takes on leadership. Matt is about to find that out as his wounded MASK team is beset by VENOM while trying to stop Ore-powered Wraiths from destroying the town. Can anything really be the same after this finale?
Noble 5 by Brandon Thomas, Jamal Igle, Robin Riggs & SOTOCOLOR – Sign me up for Astrid vs Lorena now as a meeting about Noble turns hostile quickly. Meanwhile our hero has to deal with several obstacles, not to mention his own memories F’N with his ability to do anything actually.
Harbinger Renegade 8 by Rafer Roberts, Darick Robertson, Tom Palmer & Diego Rodriguez – Kris’ decisions always seem strong and confident BUT this is the issue where we begin to see the effects all around her. Family. Friends. Strange alliances. All in the wake. Elsewhere, the H.A.R.D. Corps continue their attacks and, well, I think Peter has had enough.
Generations: The Marvels by G Willow Wilson, Paolo Villanelli & Ian Herring – At the end of Secret Empire, Kamala got sent back in time to Carol’s early days. Here we see what occurred as “Karina” begins working for Danvers’ fashion magazine. Included here are an alien rival, a famous Marvel icon and a struggle to understand the times.
Generations: The Spiders by Brian Michael Bendis, Ramon Perez & Msassyk – Similar to Kamala, Kobik sent Miles to meet a young Peter Parker and once again I’m left to wonder about how much learning that Miles actually does. This doesn’t seem like Morales is a hero that had survived 3 Universes and at least 3 Wars. I’m grading this one harder because I WANT to see growth and I’m not getting it. In my opinion of course, but Miles isn’t a rookie anymore and he stays making stupid decisions. He’s the new Bobby Drake / Gar Logan. 100%
Generations: The Americas by Nick Spencer, Paul Renaud & Laura Martin – Ok I just went there with Kamala and Miles. Well the formula for Sam’s trip varied greatly as he ends up in World War II fighting alongside Steve Rogers and continues on the timeline. While living this out, he encounters Cap several times as he sees the ups and downs of the nation. Have to give it up to Spencer as he emboldens Sam for the next phase/creative team.
Another wacky round of books done. Thanks for reading. Until Next Time, Keep Fantasizing!
