~ by Daryll Benjamin ~

STL071691.jpg.square-true_maxheight-285_size-285Black Bolt 10 by Saladin Ahmed, Christian Ward, Stephanie Hans & VC’s Clayton Cowles – The time for the clash has arrived as Black Bolt and Titania go after Lash and his followers to rescue Blinky. Differing Inhuman ideologies and methods are about to hit the fan. If you think you know how this one is going to end, that’s where Mr. Ahmed has shined… *evil laughter*

New Superman JLCNew Super Man & The Justice League of China 20 by Gene Luen Yang, Brent Peeples, Matt Santorelli, Dave Sharpe & Hi-Fi – The start of a new era? The Justice League of China strikes out on their own but there are forces not too happy about this. Prepare for the Lanterns to be unleashed and on top of that, seems there’s a man controlling sea creatures outside of Korea. Yeah. The inverted mirror of superheroics continues while Kenan might have discovered a new admirer.

SA_22_coverScooby Apocalypse 22 by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Ron Wagner, Andy Owens, Travis Lanham & Hi-Fi; Story 2 by Giffen, DeMatteis, Colleen Doran, Lanham & Hi-Fi – Welcome to Mall Wars 2018! Fred and Daphne are trapped between 2 warring factions of mutants inside the confines of a mall. Meanwhile, the kid’s mental breakdown continues as he waits with Velma, Shaggy & Scooby. How that’s going to be relevant in the future is unknown BUT knowing Giffen and DeMatteis, this is going to lead to something wicked. In the backup story, brains are being stolen from academia so who are you going to call? Secret Squirrel.

STL072723Titans 20 by Dan Abnett, Paul Pelletier, Andrew Hennessy & Adriano Lucas – Arsenal is on the hunt and after all the stuff that has gone down, he’s doing it on his own. So what happens when he crosses paths with an old foe/flame? Titans Fans, I think you know who I am talking about. Now as that is going down, Donna is still coming to grips with her new situation and the team’s status is in limbo.

dc-comics-wildstorm-michael-cray-issue-5Michael Cray 5 by Bryan Edward Hill, Larry Hama, N. Steven Harris, Dexter Vines, Andy Owens, Dearbhla Kelly & Simon Bowland – Another inverted DC Universe take and boy is this one a doozy! Running on a similar line as New Super-Man, there’s a town playing host to an aquatic “god” and of course, Cray and his team gets called in to investigate. One problem: he still doesn’t trust his team. So he’s going in with only one member. Yeah. That’s not going to come back and bite him.

DEC170837x100Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows 16 by Jody Houser, Nathan Stockman, Ruth Redmond & VC’s Joe Caramagna – After the Lizard situation, The Parker Family tries to return back to some semblance of normal but when your young teenage daughter has spider powers along with teen angst…how normal can you truly be? Meanwhile, Peter takes on a second job other than photography and Annie REALLY doesn’t like it. On top of all of that, there’s a school experiment going on that might change their world forever.

aven680Avengers 680 by Al Ewing, Jim Zub, Mars Waid, Kim Jacinto, David Curiel & VC’s Cory Petit – After another Avenger falls, things are looking bleak as one of their leaders loses control. We see a bit into the thinking of The Challenger. A fan favorite duo gets reunited and the mystery surrounding Jarvis’ affliction grows. Oh did I forget to mention The Lethal Legion and Black Order continuing to wreck? Yeah. They are definitely wrecking stuff!

608880._SX360_QL80_TTD_Captain America 698 by Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, Matthew Wilson & VC’s Joe Caramagna – Steve Rogers gets removed from the ice and awakens to a very different America than he knew. The United States of America is now a tolitarian state under rulers unknown and the people that find Cap struggle to come to grips with who he is. Once again, the ideals of America are tested to its limits.

608950._SX360_QL80_TTD_Falcon 5 by Rodney Barnes, Joshua Cassara, Rachelle Rosenberg & VC’s Joe Caramagna – The aftermath of the battle with Blackheart and Sam’s escape from hell . . . literally. What does this mean for The Patriot or the 2nd Falcon? What about the city of Chicago and the gang situation? Dangling plot points get tied up here as we answer once and for all where Sam’s head is at right now.

609020._SX360_QL80_TTD_Marvel Two In One 3 by Chip Zdarsky, Valerio Schiti, Frank Martin, VC’s Joe Caramagna, Carlos Pacheco & Rafael Fonteriz (back page) – Ben and Johnny are still trying to get their act back together. Unfortunately, the Marvel Universe has a way of not giving their heroes time to catch their breath. Toss in, inconsistent power sets and a new volitile confidant into the mix and Zdarsky has put a LOT on The Two’s plate.

dec170880Ms Marvel 27 by G. Willow Wilson, Nico Leon, Ian Herring & VC’s Joe Caramagna – The Gang has to put off their search for Ms. Marvel to try and find “The Inventor”. Pure early Scooby Gang feeling here as the teens have to try and figure out to stop their first “villain” and live up to the standard Ms. Marvel has set.

609130._SX360_QL80_TTD_Thrawn 1 by Jody Houser, Luke Ross, Nolan Woodard & VC’s Clayton Cowles – On a strange planet, Imperial Forces are about to encounter a man that will change their direction forever. Say hello to Mitth’Raw’Nuruodo a.k.a Thrawn and you will not be ready for the master machinations of this manipulation expert. Pray for his translator, Cadet Vanto now.

STL071883Archie 28 by Mark Waid, Ian Flynn, Audrey Mok, Kelly Fitzpatrick & Jack Morelli – Reggie Mantle is out of lockup and he’s making up for lost time. This also means that anyone in his path is bound to be miserable. Meanwhile Archie is back with Jughead trying to make sense of everything. And Betty & Veronica are getting glammed up and having a heart to heart.

BSS_006_COVER-A_ROCAFORTBloodshot Salvation 6 by Jeff Lemire, Renato Guedes & Simon Bowland – Well in the present, Garrison has gotten to neutralize Father’s ambitions for now but that isn’t going to matter to a pissed off Magic. Meanwhile, in the future, Rampage has gotten to their daughter who has something he wants… Oh did I fail to mention that Garrison’s nanites are having a little trouble booting up?

634856._SX360_QL80_TTD_Accell 8 by Joe Casey, Damion Scott, Ramõn Govea, Sigmund Torre, Robert Campanella of MOSH Studios & AW’s DC Hopkins – After the events of last issue, power at the complex is, along with most of the equipment, out. Accell’s “playmate” is nowhere to be found . . . who was made of electricity… and as that mystery is going on, his gal’s dad is ready to conquer a new arena of business by any means necessary.

4119128_gZLOQO3.jpg.square-true_maxheight-285_size-285Justice League 39 by Christopher Priest, Ian Churchill, Alex Sollazzo & Willie Schu – Priest once again flips the notions of superheroics on its ear in the era of social media. The “Fan” helps out one of the members of The League who’s WAY out of his environment. A beloved member returns while Batman with the Justice League of America tries to stave off a disaster in the midst of a sprawling city. All this while new chairman of the league Cyborg has to face Congress. Nothing ever goes easy here.

TNBSGvBSG02Cov02011ALoprestiBattlestar Galactica vs Battlestar Galactica 2 by Peter David, Johnny Desjardins, Mohan & Taylor Esposito – Battlestar Galactica Meets Battlestar Galactica here and if you are a fan of both shows, the differences are on full display especially when it comes to the Cylons. But you and I both know that the meeting we all want to see is Starbuck and Starbuck. Well worth the price of admission along with Apollo meeting Zarek. Love Peter David throwing fun curveballs in my reading. TOTALLY didn’t see him taking the story here.

608865._SX360_QL80_TTD_Black Panther Annual 1 by (story 1) Christopher Priest, Mike Perkins & Andy Troy; (story 2) by Don McGregor & Daniel Acuna; (story 3) by Reginald Hudlin, Ken Lashley, Matt Milla & VC’s Joe Sabino – 3 of the Panther’s writing greats return for Panther tales across the spectrum. In the first, Mr. Priest continues some unfinished business from his run that sees Everett Ross going up against the Hatut Zeraze led by T’Challa’s adopted brother Hunter. Which then leads to a threat most personal for Ross. The second sees Mr. McGregor having T’Challa on a quest for something special for a longtime love. The final tale sees Grandfather T’Challa relating history to his granddaughter but in Hudlin fashion, pay close attention to the backgrounds for what T’Challa ISN’T saying.

AVEN-2-2Avengers 681 by Al Ewing, Jim Zub, Mark Waid, Kim Jacinto, Mike Perkins, David Curiel & VC’s Cory Petit – An origin or two gets revealed but I won’t tell precisely who’s. WHy? Because that’s the crux of the tale. As that is going on, the chase for the objects intensifies while an avenger gets closer to the edge of sanity. And if that isn’t enough, another set of Avengers makes a long awaited (at least by me) reappearance!

608920._SX360_QL80_TTD_Defenders 10 by Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez, Justin Ponsor & VC’s Cory Petit – The Hood is making his underworld power play and actually visits a dude that knows one or two things about doing that. The team are in the midst of deciding their next course of action post-Diamondback. And well, the jokes keep flying. Thanks for a funny, action packed run here Mr. Bendis!

Luke Cage 170 by David F. Walker, Guillermo Sanna, Marcio Menyz & VC’s Joe Sabino – A Father giving his Daughter a bedtime story after a long tough day. Sounds like usual Americana right? Not when the daughter takes over the story. Someone strap Luke in for the twists & turns Danielle is about to take him on. A classic finale done here by Mr. Walker. An instant classic. Calling it now.

More books upcoming after all, I’ve only gone through half of the month here.

Until Next Time Folks, Keep Fantasizing!
